Food That May Well Just Turn You Into A Genius!

We are often advised about the food we should eat if we wish to stay healthy, but what about the fuel that stimulates our grey matter? Our brain is an organ and needs nutrients and other cool treats just as much as the lungs and heart. But what type of foods are the cats whiskers when it is time to add some turbo drive to our most vital of organs? This article looks at some of these bad boys and offers a little background on them as well!

Oily Fish

This is probably no secret to the health conscious of us out there, because oily fish can rock our brain’s world, and then some! Our body needs essential fatty acids big time, and our bodies pretty much suck at creating them. The best source of these fantastic fellows is to be found by eating some tasty fish. The best would be the ubiquitous tuna and the rather handsome salmon. We can also glean some valuable omega-3 fats from a host of soya related vegetable produce. If you keep the oily fish diet up to the max, there is a good chance that the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease is vastly reduced as a result.

Wholegrains
Although not everyone’s favourite, wholegrain products are incredibly efficient when it comes to producing that all important energy boost. The glucose reaction supplied by this foodstuff, feeds our brain and keeps us mentally alert all day. Try some brown pasta, granary bread and wheat bran cereals for a cerebral selection that is almost good enough to eat!
Berries of Blue
Blueberries are delicious and they also have been proven to boost our memories reserves, so what’s not to like?  They can be added to a myriad of dessert dishes, added to your breakfast cereal or just munch away on them solo, as your brain becomes even more powerful!
You Say Tomato, I Say
Tomatoes contain something known as lycopene, and this is a very effective antioxidant that protects our brain cells. The protection is impressive enough to ward off the devastation caused by Alzheimer’s disease and Vascular Dementia. Tomatoes are just so versatile that some people eat them with every meal of the day, including breakfast!
Nuts…Just Nuts!
Pretty much every type of nut is our friend in the battle of the brains, they contain vitamin E and that is the boss when it comes to beating cognitive decline. Elderly people should definitely munch on a few nuts every day as well as brown rice, eggs, seeds and leafy green vegetables. Sounds like a recipe for a delicious salad to me!
Eat Well And Live Long!
It would be unrealistic to expect us all to stay on the foods above just because of their fantastic brain boosting powers. But surely it would be easy enough to integrate them into our existing diet? Just be aware of the damage that can be done to our thinking and memory as we reach old age, take some of these every day and you should stay well for a very long time!
